SUMMARY:Workshop & Global Talent Day
DESCRIPTION:The Global Talent Day is a two-day strategic event organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment to advance Indonesia’s global talent ecosystem. Taking place in Malang on August 8–9\, 2025\, the event addresses the pressing need for skilled Indonesian workers in the international labor market\, particularly in countries experiencing a “silent emergency” in workforce demand. Despite a growing number of Indonesian talents working abroad—such as over 121\,000 in Japan as of 2024—many still face challenges including limited access to international certification\, language barriers\, financial constraints\, and gaps between education systems and global industry needs. This event aims to bridge these gaps through competency-based training\, international certification\, soft skills development\, and stronger institutional linkages between Indonesian talent and global employers. \nThe event is part of the broader “Berdaya Global” initiative and will include a full-day workshop\, interactive discussions\, and sharing sessions with former migrant workers who have succeeded internationally. It also provides a platform for stakeholder collaboration—from vocational schools and training centers to CSOs\, government bodies\, and the private sector. A highlight of the event is the bazaar featuring 100 booths by micro and small enterprises (UMKM) including ex-migrant worker entrepreneurs\, complemented by musical performances and stand-up comedy. Importantly\, the event will collect participant feedback to inform future talent development policies\, reinforcing Indonesia’s commitment to empowering its workforce globally.

SUMMARY:IBC Talk: "Strengthening Workforce Diplomacy: Indonesia’s Strategic SSW Expansion to Japan"
DESCRIPTION:The Government’s target of deploying 425\,000 Indonesian migrant workers each year and reducing the share\nof domestic placements from 80 percent to 60 percent positions our country for greater global influence while\nsafeguarding worker welfare. Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) programme is central to this ambition.\nAs Indonesia cultivates a skilled\, globally minded labour force\, Japan is contending with a demographic-driven\nlabour gap and has opened 820\,000 SSW slots for foreign talent between 2024-2029. We have a great\nopportunity to align these complementary needs for the benefit of both nations. \nInsights from the roundtable will be used to inform relevant stakeholders and support ongoing dialogue on how\nIndonesia and Japan can better align efforts to strengthen the SSW ecosystem and expand mutually beneficial\nlabor mobility
